About SHA-256

SHA-256 (Secure Hash Algorithm 256-bit) is part of the SHA-2 family and produces a 64-character hexadecimal digest from any input. It is the current industry standard for TLS certificates, digital signatures and blockchain applications.

Note: SHA-256 is fast to compute, which makes it unsuitable on its own for password storage. Use bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2 for hashing passwords.
